How to Carve a Shank Portion Ham

Rosann –
On Thanksgiving I purchased a Frick’s ham for the first time. It was delicious & it was gone by the end of the evening. I decided to buy another a week later. In my haste, I forgot to take out the bone cover & cooked the ham with it on. The internet said not to eat it so I landed up tossing the whole ham out. It is easy to forget to take off the bone cover since it is clear. I recall in the past they were white. I’m sure I am not the only one who has made this mistake. Perhaps there could be a better warning on the package.
Thank you

Oh no! Sorry to hear you tossed out the whole ham! If you forget to remove the bone cap in the future before warming the ham, there shouldn’t be cause for concern. The plastic is a food grade material and should not have any harmful effect on the product. The ham should still be safe to eat, just don’t eat the plastic itself, but we think that goes without saying.
We’re glad you enjoyed your Thanksgiving ham and thank you for sharing your feedback!

I’m to the point where if the store I’m at doesn’t have Frick’s ham, I find one that does.
It’s delicious and I find I use more and waste less than others, because they trim them better perhaps.
Nevertheless, it’s not too sweet, not too salty, and just smokey enough. Reminds me of good barbecue.

Very good quality Ham. Bought one at Winco and put in crockpot for 6 hours with Pineapple and Pineapple Juice. Unbelievable!!!

Since my grandson, who dislikes most foods other than pasta and meatballs, suggested ham for our family Christmas dinner for 13 people, I went to my local Price Chopper supermarket and discovered a Frick’s 7 lb bone-in ham. Being a big fan of Frick’s Liverwurst, I took a chance on this ham. I simply warmed it, as described by your directions, and served it to rave reviews. I didn’t glaze or decorate the ham because I was trying to reduce my workload – nobody ever helps me in the kitchen. Let me tell you, it did not need a glaze! The flavor of this ham stands alone. I am 72 years old and I have simply never had a better ham in my life.
I turned some leftover ham into Navy Bean Soup (with the ham bone), Quiche Lorraine with ham, and just plain slices of ham. My husband and I are fighting over who gets to finish the last pieces. However exactly you smoke this (small batch with hickory?), results in the most marvelous flavor one could ever imagine. The butt ham had good parts that were lean (for those family members who freak out at the sight of fat on their meat) and some more marbled portions for those of us who love the fatty parts of the butt.
Guess I’ll be serving ham for Easter and any other parties I can manage to slip in before that. Outstanding! Thank you for such a great product!
