Preparation Instructions

Warming

Preheat oven to 350°F. Remove ham from packaging and place flat side down in a 2-inch deep baking pan, fat side up. Add package drippings and 1/2 cup water in the pan and cover tightly with aluminum foil to help retain moisture. Place pan in oven and bake for 15 minutes per pound, or until reaches desired eating temperature. Remove ham from oven. Let stand loosely covered with aluminum foil for about 10 minutes before slicing to serve.

Glazing

30 minutes before baking is complete, remove aluminum foil and brush 1/4 cup of glaze onto top and sides of ham. Continue baking uncovered for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, remove ham again and brush with another 1/4 cup of glaze. Any remaining glaze can be used if desired, or served on the side as a dipping sauce. Return ham to oven and bake uncovered for the final 15 minutes.

Carving

Place warm ham flat side down on carving board or platter. Using a meat fork in one ham (to steady the ham), begin carving the ham with the other hand across the grain into 1/4″ thick slices.

My favorite ham! I discovered the Fricks Carver Ham about two years ago and was delighted!!! While a bit more expensive per lb than ‘water added’ and ‘Virginia hams,’ it is not much more expensive and considerably less than most so called artisanal hams, while what you are getting for taste and quality is what amounts to that than an artisanal ham!

You cannot beat the hardwood smoke taste that coats the meat! It is balanced with a hint of the brown sugar coating used by pioneers in their dry cure ham preservation methods. Essentially you are getting a ham very similar to the methods our pioneers used, just updated to the 20th/21st century in order to allow Frick’s to produce many.

As it is of pioneer tradition dry cure nature, the first thing that you will notice is that the meat is much more denser when slicing ‘fresh’ from the refrigerator. That is what the texture of ‘real’ ham is really like! Great for frying for a traditional ham and egg breakfast, soups for a much more favorable outcome, whole roast for a gathering dinner or just for snacking on! I have done them all.

Note, as for a whole roast, definitely cover the roasting pan tightly (as Frick’s recommends) for best results. Better yet, put in the bottom of the pan a cup of broth, veggies for side dishes and then tightly cover. With no water added, an excellent ham like this, is vulnerable to drying out when in the oven. If you want to crisp the top, then simply remove the top/or foil and set the oven to broil the last 15 minutes of cooking. It will lightly crisp the ham, while drying it out.

Wow, thanks for sharing, Lee! Those are great recommendations for enjoying our ham! We pride ourselves on delivering authentic flavor, which is something we’re glad customers like you notice and appreciate.

We have buying Frick Carver Hams from HEB for a couple of years. They are wonderful. Best hams I ever eaten and they are always raved about by our guests. We moved away from south Texas and HEB several months ago, We still have family in Texas and its not uncommon for us to buy 2 or 3 of your carver hams and bring them to Arkansas in an ice chest. Frick hams are well worth the effort.

I wanted to try one of these Fricks Carved Hams. The taste was so so and it was shot thru with gristle. You could not get around this. Every bite seemed to have some in it.Very disappointed

      Hi Walter,

We’re sorry you did not have the best experience with our ham, but we appreciate you sharing with us. If they haven’t already, our quality team will be reaching out to you hoping to find out more.

First time with a Frick’s Carver ham. Saw them at the grocery store and decided to try one. Solidly the BEST ham I have ever purchased. It tastes like I just pulled it off my own smoker. Tender and not at all salty (it’s a ham so it should have salt notes but not leave you dying for water) Overall, I’m going back to the store for two more hams. One is a gift and one is for Christmas!!!!

My husband so badly wants a ham sandwich since we moved in May to Kenosha, Wisconsin. He had worked in gourmet food from 1982-2017, in Virginia. The best domestic (i.e., U.S.) ham we had discovered was the Pagan brand from Smithfield, which is no longer producing them. (We were told the pigs got to glean the peanut fields.) We are about to finish our first Frick product, this Carver ham. And it is spot on for being the best ham we’ve had! It has that wonderful texture and taste that we have come to expect from ham. I can’t wait to try more Frick products. Is there any chance of buying simply the ham bone sometimes? After all, it is December and soup season is well underway. Thanks ever so much for all the work and especially care your family and company have put into food.

Thanks for letting us know how much you and your husband enjoyed our ham! We’re glad you did and hope you continue to! Unfortunately, we don’t sell just the ham bone, so people who want to use our bones for soups typically buy one of our bone-in ham options.

Frick smoked boneless ham is SO DELICIOUS. Thankfully it is sold at my local supermarket. YUM!!!!

  8. Jeff Gremillion

Awesome ham! I purchased from my local Walmart the half carver ham. Unfortunately, I only can buy Frick’s around the holidays. Great quality and I like that its easy to slice. The half is perfect for small family. Call me prejudiced but I will only purchase Frick’s or Boar’s Head. My prejudice is the nearly all pork is now owned by big Chinese company. Call me parotic, but I will alway buy American first. I do hope Fricks’ gets it pork from an American processor.

Bought this by chance at Walmart for Thanksgiving. Tasted great. Now if only I could get it again. Plus it had less sodium than most hams and you could taste the difference. Less salt is always better. Would definitely recommend.

My wife served up a carver ham for last night’s dinner. What a treat! The flavor stands out as a true ham flavor. No wonder the online order products are sold out!
